The Maribo Lakes are an exceptionally good area to study butterflies. There is a wide variety of species, from the common ones to some very seldom varieties. Butterflies fascinate with their lovely colours and patterns, and are also easily visible while walking. Many areas of Denmark have seen a great reduction in the butterfly population, as butterflies require special habitats. The larva often requires very specific feeding plants. Adult butterflies often require richly flowering vegetation in order to find nectar.
