The Maribo Lakes Nature Park is well-known for it’s wealth of plant and animal life. The birdlife in particular is unique.
Many come to see the area’s ospreys and impressive sea eagles, birds which are very choosy when it comes to finding a habitat. The sea eagles re-settled in Denmark as breeding birds in 1995, after an absence of almost 100 years. Now they can be seen in the area throughout the year, while the ospreys are present from April to September.
Even if you miss the ospreys and sea eagles, there are many other interesting bird species in the area. You will find many greylag geese, different ducks and all four Danish species of the grebe bird family. The grebes can often be seen near the reeds bordering the Maribo Lakes.
